English Revolution

The English Revolution was stimulated by the process of enclosures, which eroded the feudal social fabric. Peasants were forced to leave the land. Many of them ended up in England's American colonies.

The nobility adopted the characteristics of a landlord/bourgeois class. They instigated a relatively peaceful and gradual revolution as the power of the King was replaced with the political influence of Parliament.

French Revolution

The French Revolution, in contrast, was a violent response to increasing capitalist growth. Capitalism reinforced the power of the nobility and the King at the expense of the peasant.

Worsening conditions led to the calling of the Estates-General and the formation of an Constituent Assembly. During the course of the Revolution, the populist will of the peasants determined the pace of change.
